Hubley Early 1950's Checker Cab

Below are photos of a larger scale Hubley Checker Cab from the early 1950's. Checker was always behind the times with their styling, opting for a more conservative, sturdy design for their taxi customers.

Note that this model has a stamped steel baseplate. In the early 1950's, both Tootsietoy and Hubley tried to emulate the baseplates found on the then-new Dinky Toys. Both soon found out that American children did not care if there was a baseplate or not, and deleted the baseplates from their offerings to reduce production costs.
