Two 07 Camaro Concept WIP's

I was really disapointed when I saw Chevy's 07 Camaro. From the side it looked pretty darn good. Then like a babe with a knock out body and killer face she smiled with a mouth full of rotten teeth. :freak: I just don't like the grill work at all. It looks like a stupid grin. imo.

Before the 07 came out there was a challenge on another board to draw our impression of what the 07 Camaro should look like if it were left up to the participants. Oddly the rear of the real car looked much like what I'd designed. However I went with a highly modified 70 front. I like that big mouth. Must be some personality parallel ;) . Though I have a 70 casting around here somewhere it has been misplaced during the move. The other day I found a HW's casting of a 75'ish Camaro in Wally's. Though not exactly what I wanted, its close. I'll probably find the 70 casting around the time I finish this one. There'll be a few changes to the front of this one to bring it more in line with what I want. But hopefully it'll come out OK with a bit of whittling, filing, filling & sanding.

The one in the back works more with what Chevy gave me to play with. I opened up the grill making it taller and wider. In looking at the profile the front fenders look short in comparison to the rest of the body. I'm gonna seperate the fenders at the door line and extend them about 1/8 of an inch. I know this doesn't sound like much but visually it makes all the difference in the world. I can see this one being painted that "Emerald Green" possibly a black vynal top with some white "SS" stripes.....Or maybe they were "RS" stripes.....The ones that went around the grill and back down the fenders.

I actually think that it is from 78-81. It has a front bumper cover and that started in 78 early 70s had a big shinny bumper with no cover.
thanks

Shows how familiar I am with the post 70 models  Can't even spell Camaro. Anywho The front end don't look like a 75 or an 78 anymore.

The front fenders don't match up very well with the body. To get them to Krazt Glue to the body I snipped out two small copper foil strips and glued them to the fenders.

I was then able to align and KG the fenders to the body.

Now the body's ready for the J&B KWIK.

I firmly believe the J&B WELD provides a stronger bond then the J&B KWIK but the 5 minute drying time vs the 24 hour drying time is more conducive to my impatience. So the KIWK is used to fill in the discrepency in the joints between the body and fenders.

The J&B was then shaped filed and sanded. The wheels came off a Spiderman car. Oddly the front windshield from the 07 Concept works on the 78 front hood cowl. Though it doesn't fit completely flush the gap makes it appear to have room for a set of hide-a-way wipers.

The original wheel base was altered with the new front end. So I used the 87 model front cutting it where the rear fender would fall. The 07 chassis was cut where the front door will come. It still allows the interior and winshield to be used without further alterations.

Ya ever work on a custom and it looks good right up until you "finish" it and take pictures and then the pictures make it look like crap? The profile of this looks OK. Not nearly as good as it looks in hand. The front shot just looks as though something is lacking. I'm going to lengthen the head lamps and open the grill up even more. Or maybe recess it. I think that may give it a meaner look. Then maybe it'll look closer to my original concept.

Honestly if it weren't for the pictures I'd like the way the car looks. But then only I can know that. :D

An added complication has been bringing the front valance below the chassis. No matter how much I shape I still have to re-open the chassis to add the wheels after the body is painted. Then I have to carefully go back over the break between the valance and the front grill with the finish coat (fingernail polish). I've thought about a chrome bumper made from polished aluminum tube to cover the break. May be more complicated than I want to put an effort to however. I'm still looking for that 70 model beater I have. When I find it I'll change the front to what I wanted to begin with.

Hey CH, I wish my best work looked as good as the "one your not happy with!" I really liked the first version, but when you reworked the front and recessed the grill, it just came together.

The size of the valance just did not hit me as a problem. I still think Chevy made a Cadillac and not a Camaro, but I love your version.
