I must have misread about having to putty around the brass tubes. Seems you did quite a consistant job on the beveling.

After looking at the pics you posted another question came to mind. Did you have some sort of gage to use to get such consistant exterior protrusion?

Basically I used my ocular gauge-my eyeballs! :)

Seriously, I would test fit in the hull opening until it looked right then apply CA on the inside.

Yes. I've been told that.

I suppose I could have gone with the rounded "jelly bean" as drawn on the blueprints...

...but I wanted something a little more Romulan in appearance.

Here are some drawings I did of early concepts:

Using nature for inspiration...

...I called this design the Falcon:

I decided it was a little too owlish for my taste but it may have served as a nice transport or scout ship design. Just not aggressive looking enough to be a fighter.

Here's the next iteration I came up with:

Closer but still missing the more pronounced "beak" of the final design.
Someone else came up with the name Talon which I thought was a great name for a small, cloaked fighter armed with Federation warp engines and a bow mounted phaser cannon built from stolen plans.

Yeah, you have to watch those Romulans. They'll steel anything!!

That first design looked pretty cool I thought. With the beak, it looked menacing enough I think. But your final design was pretty cool too.

So you used one of God's gifts....eyeball calipers! Nothin' like'em.
