Toro mower sputters and stops when at running temp..

Toro Key-Lectric, Model 20677, will start cold and run well for approximately 3 to 5 minutes, then it will begin to sputter and eventually stop. I cannot start it back up until I let it cool down.

Note: I can get it to run longer initially if I back the throttle off when I first get it started.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to resolve this problem?

Could it be the choke malfunctioning?

Thank you.

Could be a fuel cap vent issue as Rentahusband suggested. I would also check the fuel line and possibly the carburetor may need service.

Hello and Welcome.Another thing to try would be to inspect the air filter element for clogging, and while you have it off, start the mower and look to see if the choke plate is opening as the engine warms up.The choke linkage may be binding from dirt or mis adjustment.
