TOMICA "F" SERIES

The F-Series was introduced in 1976. The 'F' in 'F' series stood for foreign vehicles - however this meant 'foreign' in the sense of foreign to the Japanese. During the first year there were eighteen models based on popular English, German, and American vehicles. The 'F' series came in distinctive blue and white packaging.

1977 saw the line expanded to thirty two models, including two vehicles from Italy.

In 1978, the number of foreign models increased to fifty-two, and included France.

In 1979, the 'F' series grew to seventy models.

By 1987, the foreign line was assimilated and consolidated into the domestic line. This change affected the numbering of the foreign line so that the 'F' prefix of the model number was eliminated and 80 was added to the remaining number - thus the foreign model 'F10' became #90 in the new consolidated line.

The Foreign toyline is a line that ran from April 1976 to October 1987 before being discontinued. The purpose of this sub-line was to focus on cars made in countries outside of Japan, to appeal to those overseas who might be less familiar with Japanese brands. Cars in this series were marked with an "F" before their number, and the box contained a picture of a flag from the vehicle's country of origin. Models released in this set tended to be available in a variety of colors and designs.

These are the Tomica's I am most familiar with - having seen them at Sears retail outlets when they carred them. And now on the 2ndary markets and shows here in the USA.
