Great cars! Martini is one of my favorite liveries.

69Stang: Is this Silk Cut Jaguar a 1/43 plastic kit from Heller?
I had one of these and it looks similar.

No it is a poorly rendered diecast by Onyx. I think I only paid $5 for it which is about right. I will replace it one day, but for now it fills a hole in the collection.

I have a picture I took at the 6 Hours of Endurance at Watkins Glen in 1976 of a BMW 3.5 CSL sponsored by Gosser Beer and NORML, the group that wanted the legalization of marijuana. There were pot leaves painted on parts of the car.

One of the favourite playgrounds of the cigarette companies was F1 until the euro restrictions in particular made it all too much hassle. So herewith

The first team to introduce sponsorship as we know it today was of course Lotus who in 1968 rebranded themselves Gold Leaf Team Lotus

f-r Quartzo Type 49, SRC type 56, Quartzo Type 72 (Rindt Championship version)

Following on from GL Lotus formed one of the iconic marketing partnerships JPS Lotus

Quartzo Type 78 Gunnar Nilsson, Quartzo Emmo's title winning Type 72, SRC Type 79 Andretti title winner

The most iconic and I believe longest lasting sposorship in F1 was that of McLaren by Marlboro. Lasting from 1974 -1996

l f-r Minichamps Lauda 84, Onyx Senna 88, Onyx Senna 90
r f-r Minichamps Prost 85, Tameo Prost 89, Tameo Senna 91

Having parted ways with Marlboro McLaren Teamed up with The West brand of ciggies from 1997 - 2005. This garnered two Drivers championships for Mikka Hakkinen in 98-99.

The Branded car is a Team Edition 99 car while the *** free version is the standard Minichamps 98 car.

Cheers

Next up are a couple of the more unusual ciggie paint schemes

Left Minichamps BAR01 in 555 and Lucky Strike zipper livery
Right Vitesse 197 the Hugo Pratt Japan GP Ligier

Somewhat late to the cigarette company coffers were Williams.

l-r Damon Hill's 1996 Title winning car by Onyx
Tameo Prost 1993 winner
Minichamps Villeneuve 97 car

Of course F1 was not Rothmans only foray into motorsport

l f-r ixo Vatanen Escort 1981, Record (resin kit)Manta 400, Minichamps P-D 959
centre Vitesse 956
r f-r ixo Waldegaard 79 Escort, Tron (wm kit)Rohrl 82 Ascona, Provence Moulage VL Holden Commodore WTCC 87

Cheers

Ex Pat Kiwi Jim Richards developed quite a successful habit while racing in Australia

l-r 1980 Bathurst winning Commodore by Dinkum Classics (due to licensing issues this came with an enclosed sheet of Marlene boronia decals for the collector to apply)
ATCC winning JPS M3 again by Dinkum
1992 Bathurst Winning Godzilla also by Dinkum

Winfield are a major brand on the Aussie (and NZ) market who as well as sponsoring the Gibson Motorsport Touring car team also sponsored rallying vehicles in Australia. One of the ir major ones was a one off deal with Misubishi for the 1998 Rally Australia

Again the Dinkum Godzilla and the Lancer Evo of Makinen by Skid

Indeed Rallying was also well propped up by the gaspers marketing funds.

McRae 1994 Rally NZ winning Impreza a code 3 (1 of 35) on the Trofeu base (note as well as the 555 the Rothmans of the rally sponsor)
1995 McRae RAC car by Trofeu

HB Sponsored Audis
1984 Stig Bomquist by ixo
1985 Walter Rorhl by De Agostini?

Ivory Coast Audi of Michelle Mouton by Trofeu

Finally three variations on the non smoking theme by Marlboro Mistubishi during 1999 all models by skid

Cheers
