Man what a big disappontment. Just got back from 4-walmarts. Hunting the street freaks. I have looked at 4 different Zingers Purple Dodge Daytona's. All had some form of factory screw ups. Two had silver paint smears on them. One had red paint dots on it. The last one looks like it was put into the blister with wet paint.

What has happend the jl product. Im starting to notice this on alot of castings.
What happend to jl being the best quality diecast you could by?

Really upset that i wasted gas and time and still couldnt find a zingers dodge daytona that was worth the 2.99.

Also noticed several import heats with rims half on the tires.

So is this a pm/jl thing or is it rc/ertl? does anyone know?

I have noticed other post questioning quality control. Is this the way things will be. Goodluck finding a clean casting?

I saw a Pony Power set at TRU where the black Mustang body was completely off the chassis. The chassis and 4 wheels were strapped down, and the body was upside-down at the other end of the box. Missing rivets I guess? Actually, I had never seen what a diecast looks like with no body, so it was kinda cool. This whole quality thing isn't a big deal to me. They're toys produced in the hundreds of thousands (all series together) and they can't all be perfect. I don't expect perfection in a every few-dollar toy I buy.

I know.

It's the original Topper's fault. You see, in PM's never ending quest for die-cast perfection they realized the company they were based on was full of errors, QC issues, employee free will and just about any other production abomination you can think of. With that, it was decided to to start to incorporate small blemishes and leave out or create tampo flaws. This to better serve the distinctive collector. To grant that old school charm of finding a flawed casting and endlessly picking it apart. Why, what would we talk about if we couldn't kick somebody's dog? The top four posts are all about QC issues that I have seen from day one and yet RC/2 is to blame.

The sun isn't out today....must be RC2. Can't find the HW Larry Wood tin, must be RC2. Found an old MC2 release with a fish eye in the paint.....damn RC2! Terrorist bombs went of in the Gaza Strip......gotta be RC2 behind it.

These same exact problems have gone on from the very start and yet all of a sudden people act like this is some new scenerio we are in. People are ready to bale over it and yet when you compare a new casting to the old style everyone is in agreement how much better they are. Which is it? Go to a non Mattel HW board and what are the issues, QC. Go to Muscle Machines and what are the issues, QC. Folks, as long as you have a foreign land making millions of something they have never seen at slave labor rates, this is always going to be an issue unless you are willing to pay Franklin/Danbury type pricing and even still, I bet you have problems. I know Brooklin does and they don't even chrome everything.

Can we lighten up a little on this RC2 blame game already? Give it a little time. You wanna bale, bale but I for one don't need the theatrics first.

I did notice lots of flaws in the Pony Power sets. I looked through 12 sets before I found a perfect one. By the time I got home the windshield of the 69 Camaro came off. Oh well, I just wanted the 'Cuda anyway.

I'm pretty sure the Pony Power sets were the last thing associated with Playing Mantis. So they probably just rushed them out while they were switching over.

I doubt seriously there has been a change in the location and a major change in personnel. I'm guessing people may be looking closer than before. I'm betting this s just a little hic-cup.

I don't think PM or RC2 handles quality control.

I'd be willing to bet the factory in China handles their own quality control, don't forget JL does not own the factory where these cars are made (HW's does own the factories,so I've read),the factory is hired by JL.

JL hires the factories to produce cars for them,If the cars don't meet up to the quality JL is looking for then it's up to JL to let the factory know they are unhappy and want changes or maybe they should change factories...that's it,maybe the factory would get better QC if they thought they were going to lose the JL account.
