Here's a silly model I knocked out one weekend after my modelers block finally lifted!

I wanted to make a dock for my 1/1000 fleet, that ships physicaly docked with and that looked a bit like the docks in NY in the 1930's (with all the old steamships lined up side by side).

I made a simple slot for the saucer to slide into - it works quite well and it can even take the weight of the ERTL Excelsior.

I don't particually like the design of the station but its a good prototype for something better.

It was one of those silly projects that started out as a test bed and ended up consuming a ton of detail parts and a load of LED's!

I think its a bit to greebley for a federation dock - I suppose, I could make an upper level too - its a bit too "stand alone" with no context at the moment.

Anyway, though I stick it here!

I like the concept and it looks realy cool! I noticed this one is obviously reserved for the Mirror Universe fleet. I think the greeblies give it a sense of scale, so I would add more myself. It certainly looks like a space port. Ever think about adding cranes? Especially near the NX with the Nacelle removed for repairs...

Excellent Job!

Very nicely done! The lighting really adds to it. I also think it would be just fine for a regular Federation dock, tho think it looks awesome as a Terran Empire dockyard. Great job. :)

Looks like something to use for unwinding at the end of a long day, too! Zoomin' ships in and out of the docks and such. You should buy at least one of the open shuttlebay sets for the Constitution and some of the shuttlecraft sets from the Starship Modeler store (look under "Star Trek" and then "Trek Kit Conversions") so you can add a bit more detail to it. Maybe add some warning stripe decals, wording for each of the different bays, etc... Make it less "static", I think is what I'm trying to get at.

Again, VERY nice job. That looks really sharp!

I don't think it looks silly at all. In fact, it looks downright practical.

Now all you need is a bunch of Andorian Longshoreman to go on strike and the illusion will be complete!

You're kidding, right? That dock is awesome! I like your Imperial Starfleet as well!

I think all the greeblies look right for the Mirror Universe. I don't suppose they'd be all that big on aesthetics, anyway.

Hey guys, thanks for the kind words!

I wasn't sure if I should commit to giving the station more life but I think I will now!

I think my opinion of it was tainted by the pain in the butt LED's. They would light up fine as I built the darn thing, then, as soon as I'd think I'd finished it, some of them would stop working and I'd have to pick parts away to replace them!

Thanks for the shuttle link Griff, I was looking for those but couldn't find them - I'm going to get a set or two, now.

Needs more light too - uh oh, here we go again!

Cheers,

Mike

Wow Mike! That's really an awesome model you've made there. Certainly not too many greeblies on it. If anything I'd be tempted to add just a smidge more to detail it and bring the scale out. Beautiful looking imperial fleet as well :)

Todd

I like design, and having it in the Mirror Universe, it fits more. It reminds me of the docks, used in the fan films of ST:Hidden Frontier.
I agree with adding cranes, and shuttles. More lights, maybe used to help direct the ship into the dock.
Nice touch of the Earth globe in the photos.

I have to say that really is rather cool, i don't think it's silly or over greeblie-fied at all. Having all the ships as mirror universe is a nice touch.
Albeit what i've said echos pretty much what's already been said and i would like to see more of this kinda thing from you.

Go easy

I too like it ! A very practical idea for docking ships with saucers. More greeblies and some small worker bees would really add. Perhaps some tiny workmen in spacesuits "floating" on tethers made of fine wire. How cool.
