so your making a racer. take the clutch or what ever you got on there of then take if any thing that will obstruct you. like everything except the engine. you can take the head off to help in the further steps but take every last bolt holding on the cover making sure to mark where they go if some are longer than others on cardboard making a template. now if it has what you call a wear ring at the top of the block that needs to be removed if you want to make it all easy you can pop a wrench on the rod end to remove it then push it out. everything else should be simple. now the rod end cap, you can put on there what i like to call a sharks tooth. its a triangle shape on a very light weight cap. it throws the oil everywhere in the engine keeping it lubed under high strain. or you could just take the gov. off and just do that and it'll still go fast but you will need to adjust the carb no matter what to make up for the higher rate of fuel.
