I recently had to find a way to apply rivets to a 1/32nd scale resin model. With a bit of trial and error I managed to get consistant small holes cut with a vinyl sign cutter. Applying a smear of polyester resin with a small pallet knife through 80 micron vinyl stencil material gives a nice sized raised rivet when the stencil is removed. The rivets as drawn in adobe illustrator are 0.9mm dia but they end up about 0.8mm dia since the cutter blade offset seems to shrink them a little.

I can draw specific patterns or use strips of holes for some of the more freeform surfaces.
