Refit/Aztek decal paint question

Hey, all...

Has anyone tried using the kit-supplied aztek decals over a base color other than white on a Refit? I've always thought white looked too bright and toy-like, preferring the light grey on-screen appearance. I don't have the skills to do aztek-ing with paint, so I'm wondering if the decals would work on a VERY light grey base coat.

Any thoughts?

I'd be interested in that answer too. I know, at least at this time I couldn't pull off a great aztek paint job. Worst is because I don't see colors very well. The decals would solve that I believe but I really don't want "my" Enterprise to look like a toy.

Well mine was over a white I used the Pearl white rattle can from Tamiya, then applied the aztec decals and applied clear pearl over that to tone things done before doing the markings and stencils...

Here is one of the shots I took of here. I was considering a really light grey or taking the Thomas Sasser approach of mixing some Silver into the white but I think I'd do it this way again....

:dude:A million years ago when STTMP came out. I painted my "screen accurate" amt smoothie a flat white w/gull grey highlights because I just knew the ship was not glossy and toy like. I had No idea there was an Aztec pattern! I thought about doing a "Metallic" silver version maybe, however it would be interesting to do some testing with the decals.

I picked up a STIV Enterprise off evilbay and am wondering who makes the Aztec decals for her. Any help? And yes, mine will be painted "Federation grey". There was a "Generations" crash scene in Fine Scale Modeler once that, to my mind, the guy nailed the Federation grey color on his D. In the movie there are great shots of the saucer during crash-landing that shows the color in natural light.

Sorry, I was without Net connection for a few days during my just-finished move. I see the question as to where and how to get them has been answered. :)

I've got a set, but not yet have a build up to apply them to. I've got that build up to start sometime before the year is over to use those decals on, after I get a space cleared to set up a new modeling work area.
