My late step father has a Dale Earnhardt Sr window net from one of the cars he raced in. I was wondering how much it would be worth. I don't have any kind of documentation with it, but I did notice that all the metal rings around the net have the number 3 embossed on them. I think it would look real nice framed and up on someones wall. I'm not a Nascar fan.

the embossed "3" may not be related to Earnhardt as it is NOT in the copy written Richard Childress font (see side of any Earnhardt Childress car). This 3 may be the size of the gromett being used and put there my the manufacturer. Without any documentation it would be impossible to accurately identify this as belonging to Childress Racing and the #3 car as raced by Dale Earnhardt.

Attempting to sell this as an authentic Earnhardt collectible would not be a good idea IMHO.

Well, I know where he got it from. He was at a race somewhere in Michigan about 10-15 years ago. He went to have his picture taken with a Dale Earnhardt car (he had to climb in the window). When he was getting in he noticed the net in the floor (in the area where there isn't a seat). He took his jacket off and put it on top of the net and took it. He stole things all the time, but I'm sure this was one of his favorites. (I still have the pictures of him with the car). The fact that I know it was taken from a Dale Earnhardt car and that there are number threes on all of the metal rings (something he never noticed) would be a major coincidence.

Aside from any moral or legal issues, this is still the same old story....YOU know where it came from but no way to prove it. So to you, it is THE window net from Dale Earnhardt's fabled #3 RCR Nascar....but to the rest of the world, it is just a window net.

No way to even say it is from a Nascar, just a window net. And yes, those are commercial two part #3 grommets. I am sorry, but I am afraid this memorabilia is worth far more to you in the great memory than in tangible value. I vote hang on to it and enjoy the story.

But on a brighter note, welcome to Hobby Talk.
