When a small hp engine, say 3 to 6hp needs more than just rings and a gasket set, say boring .020 and new piston with rings is it more economical to repair or short block?
Depends, are you doing the work for yourself? If so then it is probably less expensive to repair. If however you are doing the work for someone else, the labor involved in an overhaul/rebuild can be excessive when compared to a short block or even a new engine. You also have to consider that a new engine comes with a warranty and may be worth a little extra cost.
