Simple question for any of the other Aussie members?

Has the new TOS Enterprise been released in Oz yet?

If not, has anyone been told when it will be and (I dread to ask) how much will it be?

Cheers

As for Melbourne, there are only a few large hobby/model kit shops (eg. Hobby Place, Vic Hobby Ctr) in the city centre, and the odd specialist shop (eg. Metro Hobby) in suburbia, of which these places do stock a few PL kits. Have not been to these shops for a few weeks now, they didn't have the Enterprise at that time.

As for TRU, and Walmart equivalents, they have NEVER stocked PL, and their stocks of AMT/ Revell etc. is dwindling to essentially non-existant levels.

Any other news for other Oz cities?

Nothing like another awesome model from PL to bring you out of a very long hibernation...
Hey guys!
Those who have been around for more than six years might remember me (Bruce In Sydney, then Bruce In Melbourne) etc, those of you who don't... Well. Hello!
Anyway, it's good to be back out of lurk mode.

In answer to your questions, Kolectable Kaos in Sa has 6 kits ready to go (they got them in TWO WEEKS AGO!!!)
The link is http://www.kollectablekaos.com.au/customer/product.php?productid=21381&cat=&page=1
Shipping is $10 anywhere in Oz.

Nice to be back.

Cheers,

Bruce! $110?!?!? I can't believe it costs that much to get these kits downunder! It'd be cheaper to buy it on the Internet and pay the postage.

I'm in Australia (Brisbane). I ordered mine from CultTVMan in the US (http://culttvman.net/), together with a set of Aztec Dummy painting masks. The combined price, converted into Australian dollars, was less than what I paid locally for the NX-01 model a year ago. Shipping and handling is a little expensive, but Steve has so many cool things there that I bought a bunch of other stuff too. This brought the S&H per item down considerably.

In any case, the biggest expenses on this puppy will be the cost of paint to detail it, and LED's to light it. Even A$110 will pale in comparison to what you'll have to spend afterwards. I probably spent upwards of A$600 on my NX-01 by the time I finished it - not including the cost of the kit!

Quite a few, plus the assorted blinker circuits, external power supply, etc. I also used up a lot of Tamiya spray cans to paint the Aztec pattern on the hull. At $10 a can, that quickly mounts up. Another A$60 or so to order the NX-01 Aztec painting masks from CultTVMan. Also included is the cost of a few blind alleys - ideas that didn't pan out. Keep in mind that I didn't have so much as a soldering iron when I started, so a lot of basic equipment got rolled into the budget for "The NX-01 Project", which I won't have to buy again for the next model.

On the Refit, I'm already a couple of hundred dollars in the hole buying up components to experiment with infrared remote control, sound effects, etc. And half a dozen different spray can colors to find the right ones to paint the Refit Aztec, just to conclude that I'll probably need to bite the bullet, get an airbrush, and mix my own colors. A few dollars more for the airbrush ...

My point is that these things mount up pretty quickly, and so A$110 for the basic plastics is nothing compared to the final price you'll end up paying to build the obsession. Even if you have some of the above already lying around. But don't let that stop you ...

I ordered mine from a guy on evilbay, it worked out at $105 Aus including freight, which I think is reasonable. Have'nt seen any sign of 'em in shops around Sydney (probably a good thing for the wallet!) If any show up I will post.

Think Minotaur in Melb. had em listed as a pre order for $125..

I'm waiting for my local hobby shop to stock the 1/350th. ie. Metro Hobby in Melbourne. I imagine it will be around the $110 (AUD) mark. Don't think I will get it from Cult this time 'round, USA shipping for such large items is getting so very expensive. I am contemplating 2 Ents given it is such a monumental kit... Fox.

Typical, I left Adelaide two weeks ago to come back here to Oman to work. Doesn't matter, I have a case of four in the mail as we speak from Doll and Hobby, and seeing as the total cost for the kits was under $160 US I can afford to take a little hit on the shipping.

I will probably cart a few back in my luggage ( or AS my luggage!!) to put in store for later on when I go home next in August.

Cheers

I don't think I've ever bought anything from Minotaur - I like to go in there to browse and try to guess how inflated their prices on things are though. Rule of thumb with them is to think of a reasonable price - then double it and add 15%.
Anyway, we're getting O/T.
I've bought plenty of stuff from D&H, Modelers Vault (are they still around?) and evilbay, but I just know that the shipping on an item of this size and weight has got to hurt. Of course, I'd want the kit now (or sooner) so I'd ship air. Can I ask what you (other Aussies) paid for shipping? If it's only a matter of $10.00 or so I'll get it from Adelaide...

The Toyworld here in Canberra has stocked the 1/1000 TOS Enterprise, Klingon Cruiser, Scorpion and the NX.

So I have no doubt that they'll stock the refit at some point.. it may be expensive though.

Saw the refit today at Kellets Hobbies in Liverpool (Western Sydney) for $105.00. Exactly the same as mine cost from ebay with the shipping from USA. They don't list em on their website though, only R/C stuff there. Haven't seen it elsewhere, Sherrifs Minicars in Parramatta could be a chance though.

I agree with your comments about Minotaur! I use the website to see whats out then try to track it down elsewhere! Sneaky huh?

Cheers :)

Gday Aussie's, I agree that Minotaur are very expensive overall, but I did get a good once-off bargain with the 'big blue' Lost in Space Movie Robot (yes, the AMT kit) for only $27, they were running them out at the time (going back quite a few years ago). I will keep you posted about the Refit price at Metro Hobby in Melbourne when it appears... Fox.

Thanks guys,

I'm actually up in Sydney for a week from Sunday as part of the 501st Legion for the new Star Wars movie promotions so I was going to check out some of the hobby shops to see if they have the refit in stock.
Fox - you got a real bargain on the LIS ronot - was it marked down from $119.95? ;)
Thanks for the heads up on Kelletts Daika- I might give them a call tomorrow to see if they can hold one for me. I called Alternate Worlds (in Melbourne) today to see if they had any - the guy I talked to (despite being very helpful)didn't really have too much of an idea of what I was talking about.
Sad huh?
Such is life...
It's gonna be interesting getting back into model making again - can't remember the last time I picked up my airbrush :(

Have a good one!

cheers,

Yes,
If you want to buy it online try Aeroworks. He doesn't have a website but he runs a mail order hobby shop from home. His email addy is [email protected]
His name is Craig Chidley and has been in business for about 5 years. Really good guy to deal with. He's based in Adelaide, South Australia.

Yes it's a shameless plug for a mate! I got mine for $110 Australian.
