My rule of thumb is to apply dark over light and light before dark. So it would depend for me what color your panel accent is. A more direct approach is the lighter color goes on first. (y)

You can pre-shade the panel lines before the basecoat then do your highlights after the base coat. If you preshade make sure the base coat is light enough to let a faint amount show through.

Thanks to all, great tips! I mostly build cars, and some motorcycles. I'm going to try pre=shading after primer and then again after base coat. I'm thinking about getting a panel line scriber or a chisel for my cars. I've read the Tamiya scriber makes a v groove, but the chisels (more expensive) make flat channels, any thoughts? Thanks again!
