I was recently unpacking some small desk models and found this sweet little surprise – an original of my own design and build from 20 years ago. She was originally built for a short film I was making, and I wanted her to look both sleek, and fireplug-ish, reflecting speed and sturdiness.

The nods to Irwin Allen craft are obvious, and intentional. I am a huge Spindrift, Fly-Sub, Jupiter 2 fan. Having rediscovered my little ship I spent some graphic design time updating the design. The model itself is balsa wood and sheet styrene, with a few tiny kit parts, most of which broke off during her purgatory in the mothball fleet storage box. I am delighted to become reacquainted with her.

Presenting the dream flyer Magellan.
