I did this years ago before I started collecting again and really knew that so many people customized HW and MB sized cars. Posting for grins.
When I was a kid, I found this Vandemonium Scorcher. The rear rubber tires were missing and the motor was dead in it. My father opened it up, removed the dead guts, and made me some rear wheels which weren't perfect, but worked well enough. Of course it was awesome of him to do so and I ended up with a free rolling toy.
Somewhere along the way I ended up with a chassis from a dead cheap knockoff of those tiny RC cars. With some fiddling and some washers to space the rear wheels properly, my first wheel swap. It was an amusing coincidence that they were both 8 spoke style wheels.
The top right is what a minty fresh example looks like for comparison. Apologies to whomever I stole the image from years ago. :drunk:
