Hi, Ive got an old (probably 1960s or earlier) gas generator that I got from my grandfather. I took the glass bowl thats under the fuel tank off to clean it and now it will not seal back up and is leaking gas. What should I use to seal this properly? Is there supposed to be a gasket there?

A gasket. If i remember correctly they took a cork gasket.

Yes it does take a cork gasket and if you have a problem finding one check your automotive supply store they have small rolls of sheet cork and make the gasket your self
Or you may already have a Costar made of cork that is used for protecting furniture I have used these they work perfect.
