GM reveals convertible Chevy Camaro

Convertible version of the Chevrolet Camaro debuts. Production version will roll out in 2010.
POSTED: 7:28 p.m. EST, January 4, 2007

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- General Motors released photos of a convertible Chevrolet Camaro concept vehicle Thursday. The car will be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show on Sunday.

After revealing the hardtop version at the Detroit show last year, GM announced it would produce a new Camaro in 2009. A convertible version will go on sale in 2010.

History is repeating itself with that planned reintroduction.

The Camaro was first unveiled in 1966 in response to Ford's 1964 introduction of the Mustang. Its return was, once again, inspired by the success of the Mustang. This time it was the retro-styled 2005 model-year redesign that reignited passion for the pony car.

Production of the Camaro, and its close relative, the Pontiac Firebird, ended in 2002

"If this Camaro convertible doesn't make your heart beat faster, you should either see your optometrist or your cardiologist, because you have a problem," said Ed Peper, general manager of GM's Chevrolet division, in an announcement accompanying the photos.

The concept is painted in "Hugger Orange" pearl tricoat, an update of a color originally offered in 1969.

The Camaro convertible concept car is powered by a 6.0-liter V-8 engine and has a manual transmission.

I'll be getting one of these...

eh, I like the hardtop better. It has a very clean look to it, I like it.
That gauge cluster is quite odd though.

But for that kinda money for an '09 LS2 camaro, you could buy one of those dynacorn bodies, and build your own "new" 69.

I have a serious feeling that I'll be looking for new quarters for the Typhoon once this comes out. My girlfriend will kill for one in white with orange stripes, and it will definately get the best garage space we can find.

To me this car still just isn't quite right. It is a vast improvement over the previous generation but it still looks uncomfortable in it's own skin. 18" wheels would be just fine and a bit more of a front overhang would allow the car's lines to 'flow' just a bit more. Right now it reminds me of one of those ugly pekinese cats. A+ on the interior  Just don't forget to put the gloves on before you grab that shifter on those frosty morns......

Ain't gonna happen. BTW does anyone other than me think the front end looks a bit like Jack Nicholson in Batman? It's got a strange grin going on. :freak:

The grille opening of that car still bothers me. It just doesn't seem quite right to me. The rest of the car looks good to me.
