FIRST Outdoor Race May 20th!!!

The outdoor tracks are raceable! Most of the edging is installed, most of the track is "1/18 scale smooth"! We still need timing set up, the nitro pit lane built and electric/water run to the track. Some of the jumps need adjusted, we'll see where as the season progresses. Also will have lighting for night racing.
Free Practice in May whenever the store is open! You can use the pit area in the back of the building or bring a pop-up.

OPENING DAY SUNDAY-SUNDAY-SUNDAY MAY 20th!!!!
All Oval/OffRoad classes will be run, 3 make a class
Store opens at 12:00
Registration/Practice until 1:30
Racing at 2:00
ONLY $5.00 entry fee on May 20th per class. Food specials in the snackbar! Full payout of Big Dog Bucks

We're finishing up work on the drivers stand and nitro pit today. Spent a couple more hrs. smoothing the racing line. We did some work on the interior double jumps and the big tabletop, should be able to run them from either way. We have several out practicing today, some drivers may want to drive from the oppisite side of the track and it may work out great to drive the oval from the tabletop jump. Should have water and electric to the track later today. Thanks to Jack, Jakob, Terry and Andy for all their help today!

Looking like it should be great weather for opening day!
We set up the timing/scoring trailer last night, Terry is finishing up the drivers stand (we raised it a couple more feet in the air). Was playing with a tripod sprinkler today-I think if we use a booster pump we may be able to automatically water the whole track at any time! Hope to see everyone Sunday!

Great Racing on Opening day, Sunday! Even with the big track, there were a lot of close races: Matt was 4 sec. behind Bird Dog on the 4x4 SC oval, David P. won the 4x4 Offroad by just 8 sec. Sam and Ken both finished ahead of several 4x4 SC trucks with their Buggies! Brad M. won the E-Scale offroad just ahead of Harold T. Jurgen led the large scale off road with his gas SC RedCat for several laps, Harold got by and finished 1st with the electric. David P. put on a show in Nitro Buggy beating out Brad M. by only 7 seconds after a 7 min. race! The best action of the day was Jurgen clearing the big tabletop down the back straight and landing on all 4's, 20' past the downside with the BIG 1/5 Gas Truck! When you marshal that corner you can't see him coming until he crests the top with all 4 wheels in the air! Will keep you posted for the next event, not sure about Memorial Day weekend? (The track is open for practice whenever the store is open)

no outdoor racing this Memorial Day weekend, regular racing on Wed. & Sat. and the store/tracks will be open at noon on Monday for practice/test/tune.

We're putting in more drainage for the outdoor track and adding more sprinklers. We had plenty of water at the opening event, just need to distribute it more even. The plan is to be able to water the track for 15-30 seconds, between heats instead of soaking the track between rounds, waiting for it to dry, running in the mud if you are up first or the dust if you are at the end of the round. We're also working on a way to cover the track when not in use so rainstorms the night before won't ruin the track. We would also be able to quickly cover the area for passing storms during raceday.

The Nitro guys that were there wanted 5min. heats/ 7min. mains, that's what we ran. They didn't want to have a fuel stop. I'm OK with what ever the group decides.

We wanted to start at 2:00, first heat was around 2:30, (had some late sign-ups and computer issues that needed resolved). We finished around 6:30. (There were about 50 entries). I'm guessing that this Sunday we will be done before 6:00, depending on the turnout we will run 2 or 3 heats before the mains.

We move things along pretty quickly, we had 144 entries indoors on a Saturday night, with 2 heats and mains we ran almost 100 races. drivers have plenty of time between rounds so we move quickly between races. The outdoor we give a little extra time to get the marshalls in place. If we stay on schedule there is practice time between rounds or open practice after the mains. All entries receive "Big Dog Bucks" they can spend like cash in the hobby shop. Some drivers make a profit! entry fee is $10 first class/ $5 each additional. Payout with 6 entries in a class is $9-1st, $6-2nd, $3-3rd, all others $1. If you enter 2 classes ($15) and get 2 1st's ($18), you actually make money on the racing. Last Sat. one driver ended up with over $50 in profit!
