Based in Italy, Mebetoys was founded in 1966 by Ugo and Martino Besana.

In 1970, they issued a 1:66 scale sized Lotus F1 racer in their 'Jolly Series'.

Around this same time they were purchased by Mattel with Hot Wheels branded castings, then being made in Hong Kong, were issued as 'Mebetoys Flying Colors' in picture boxes later that year.

A Hot Wheels series of 1:43 scale diecasts called 'Gran Toros' was also made by Mebetoys for Mattel.

In 1974, the Besana brothers (now including brother Mario) formed Martoys which later became BBurago which was started by Martino Besana alone.

Notice is made that in the early 2000s a resurgence of the Mebetoy brand was occurring but no specifics were given.
