This casting was designed in 2006 by an un-credited MB staff person(s) in 1:57 scale. It debuted in 2007; in the Matchbox 1-75 Metal Series, in the Desert Endurance Segment. As of 2021, it has been released 18 times according to the Fandom current listings.

I picked up my first version of this casting back in 2015. It is from the 2014, 1-120 Metal Series, MBX Explorers Segment and was Toy # BDT60 in the USA and BFJ30 in the ROW. All of these castings have been made in Thailand since 2007. Only one base plate date code has been noted as G43 for this distribution.

MB723. Volkswagen Beetle 4x4. From the 2007 MBX Metal series. Although MB claim a scale of 1:57 I would put it at closer to 1:60. A metal on plastic, 2006 casting produced in Thailand. A generic racing livery. There is a lot going on here. Nudge bar with two spotlights, a sparse interior with medical kit & other bits up on the rear parcel rack. Head & Tail lights detailed. The engine is part of the interior & the window insert goes all the way to the front post. A sunroof to top it off. I like.
