I received a personal message this evening from the moderator who removed my post in the "Word Association" thread a few days ago stating that he was giving me my one and only warning because I seemed to take issue with his "moderatoring" (sic). I sent him what I consider to be a polite response, but I think he might not take it that way. Here's what I sent him -Decide for yourself:

"I have no problem with your moderating. I just think you went overboard. It was meant as an innocent joke, nothing more. I had no idea that there were people on here who were so thin-skinned. I consider myself duly warned. In all respect, however, taking that warning into consideration, may I then request that it be a two way street and you take care of anything might I find offensive too? For instace, I'm active on the "Alphabet Song Game" thread on the Johnny Lightning forum, but I find certain artists personally offensive for their public stance on certain issues. Please forbid the posting of ANY songs by Elton John (his public statement two years ago that "Jesus was a gay man", and promoting the gay lifestyle homosexuality is specifically forbidden in several places in The Bible), George Michael and The Indigo Girls (promoting the gay lifestyle), George Harrison (drug use, Hare Krishna), Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Buffett, Led Zeppelin, Paul Simon, Bob Seger, (the last several for drugs, sex, and drunkenness), etc. just for starters. I'm sure there will be more. These peoples' immoral public statements have no place in a family friendly forum either. Also, I don't want to see anything from anyone who has ever expoused a pro-abortion stance. I consider that to be EXTREMELY offensive. Heck, you might as well delete the whole game it's so offensive! Same with the "Word Association" game!"

If he decides that I'm pushing it with this, he'll probably delete this post too and ban me from HobbyTalk a a result. If he does, I want you all to know that it's been fun, and I'm sorry if my attempt at humor offended anyone. Also, thanks to the many of you who supported me through this.

For what it's worth, I've been interacting with CorvairJim here long enough to know that he's just a regular guy looking to contribute to HT in a positive way and have fun like most of us here. Feeling misunderstood or singled out has left him upset naturally. I can say from experience that if someone reports a post as "inappropriate", for whatever reason, a mod will usually remove it, just because it's their duty. Nothing personal.

I think if everyone can keep their immediate impulses at bay, and understand what their duty is, both members and mods, we can maintain a fun place without a good member being banned.

I think what might benefit you is looking at it from a moderator's point of view. First off, they are not perfect either. They are volunteering their time to try to make places like Hobbytalk a nice place for all to feel welcome. It's nothing personal when one of your posts gets removed.

Second, there are some people that get really fired up quickly and some subjects are just more sensitive than others. It's better to not let things get started because people can get their feelings hurt real easy. We are all from different parts of the country and some of us have a much thicker skin than others. Some others see it as a personal attack on their beliefs and could lash out because they don't find such comments funny and instead see it more as a personal insult.

I think the moderators here are doing a great job. I respect their position and I respect this message board. If I were in your shoes, I would just let it go and enjoy what this board has to offer.

Corvair Jim! Your post was deleted, so what! Many of the members here had this happen. We all enjoy your activity, responses, effort, and interest in this Hobby Talk Community! I want you to continue being active with HT. The moderators just did wht they felt was proper. They didn't target you personally. Take your little event, and consider it a priviledge that you were part it, and learned a few things from it! Please continue to grow with Hobby Talk, and put the same effort and dedication into your posts as you had in the past. I enjoy your place here, and I need a Hobby Talk friend who learns more die-cast related songs that begin with the letter "z". Seriously, we all enjoy your effort and dedication to the Hobby-Talk community!--Al.

It's me folks.

Why would I delete this post? If you take offense at certain posts, just let me know and I'll remove them. I do not read every thread and every post, I reley on members to tell me of offending posts.

Seems you have a chip on your shoulder and are way to serious. People here are not Thinned Skinned, they just follow the rules, which I expect you to do. The PM I sent you, which for everyone's knowledge said that if he posts any more political posts I'd ban him, was because you have an attitude.

Let's talk about toy cars and forget this political stuff. Have fun, smile, laugh, it's all good.

Jim,

I would also have to agree with Wyatt, Al, and Chris here. I have no idea what might be happening in your life. I do know that when something like this happened to me, I was at a low point, plus it was the first time something like that happened. I didn't understand it either at the time.

The bright side here is that you received an explanation (not from one, but two mods, both past and present), plus told several times it was not personal. I would call that both a victory, and an apology, of sorts.

I did not see your post that was deleted, and as political satire and cartoons are viewed as humorous by many--some folks even seem to make a living at it--it is simply stated in the rules that this place be a political free zone. And though it might seem ironic, or even hurtful on some level, take comfort in the fact that on some level, you can look at this board as an escape from a subject that seems to permeate so much of life as we know it. Look at that aspect as a little section of the cyber world where you don't have to think about anything but the joy of your hobby.

I don't know you personally, nor have I had any interaction on the board. But I hope that this will change, and that I will find myself reading some of your posts that shows off your collection, and gives some interesting opinions on diecast.

Lighten up, Jim. Life isn't perfect, it's just the best thing we've all got. I've been censored on the boards before for my off-the-wall sense of humor and I never got personally offended by it. I have been flamed by two or three members via PM because I poked harmless fun at something they said. Simply put I have a sense of humor - they didn't. We are all different people here and the moderators simply try to keep the ship we call Hobby Talk on an even keel. I don't care for Elton's views or politics, but I love his music; conversely, because I love his music (and the words of Bernie Taupin) doesn't mean that I endorse his views or politics...

Please go back to your other "rant thread" and read my comment there, unless it's already been censored. Hope that puts a smile back on your face, my friend...

I haven't read any of the threads leading to this point, but FWIW discussion politics and religion are usually rightly verbatim on internet forums because it is impossible for people to discuss them without a fight breaking out. It will always happen, thus should be stamped out before fires start.

Also, if anyone is trying to avoid talking about musicians that have used illicit substances or could be called 'gay friendly' even if they aren't themselves, you'd probably better just not talk about any popular music at all. :p

Anyway, let's talk about cars and things eh?
