I have a 1950's Lionel metal steam engine. I do not know anything about reparing these engines. My problem is the engine runs fine in reverse but will run very noisy and sluggish and sometimes not at all forward. Anyone with some ideas as to what is wrong with this engine? Thank you. Greg

Most likely, one motor brush spring has lost much of it's tension, or one brush has worn more than the other. Remove the brushes and springs, clean the commutator and brush holders, and install new springs and brushes. Re-test the engine, and report back here.
