I have a 20 yr old kawasaki FC420V on a Skagg mower. It runs great for about an hour and then runs rough and cutout. if I let it cool for a while it will start up and run fine for a while then does the same thing. Seems to run longer in cooler weather. I replaced the igniter last Fall. I'm thinking that the coil may be going bad based on age. It was an after market igniter so I suppose it could be bad again.

Thoughts?

It may be the coil. Also check the valve clearances before you spend any money. The intake valve may not be totally closing when the engine reaches a certain temp. due to thermal expansion. I have seen this before.
