Karloff to Kiwi

O.K...I'm trying to turn this Karloffian/Strange head into a Kiwi Kingston head...and it's not going so great. I'm not a very good sculptor. If anyone has any tips for me on this, please let me know. I know that no one can magically teach me how to sculpt over the internet, but any ideas to make it look a bit better will be appreciated. It doesn't have to be perfect to meet my needs, and I don't expect it will be.

Thanks

Ben

It's a good start so don't put your sculpting skills down! I think Kiwi's brow-box ran higher, even with the hairline on the original head you're using. The only other problem you're going to have, to get a dead-on likeness, is that Kiwi's eyelids weren't heavy like Universal's Monster's was. He was pretty bright-eyed under the box on his forehead. Not sure what you could do about that, though?

Like I said...it doesn't have to be dead-on perfect...I'd never achieve that anyway...LOL. The eyes should be O.K. since the head will be "dead"...even detached from the body. Your right about the big box..it needs to be bigger and maybe even "boxier". Thanks a bunch, man..I appreciate it.

Now I'm really intrigued to see what you've got planned.

Yeah, well my plans often have a way of turning into big steaming piles of dog doo-doo....LOL. But, I am attempting something special and a bit more ambitious than my previous work. I'll definitely keep everyone posted and show some wip photos.

Thanks

Now with 20% more Kiwi!

Well, I don't know if that's true...although I did re-think the way I was doing the head. It seems a little better. Every time I smoothed the lines on the boxy part to make it seem more "realistic", something got lost in the translation...so I'm leaving those edges sharp. I have some hair ordered for it...and I'm going to use some sculpt-a-mold to fill out the face as it has that sort of cottage cheesy look to it. I think I should make the mouth shorter, too. Anyway...still open to constructive criticism for those who wish to share it. And please tell me I'm the only one who sees the ever so slight resemblance to James Arness...

Thanks

Ben

Much closer now, and the profile is pretty much dead on. Still very curious what you plan for a headless Kiwistein!

Thanks, man...I do seem to be getting there...I'll give you some hints..today I ordered spindles, copper wire, tube coin storage holders, and railroad lighting!

Thanks

Ben
Far out!
So how'd this one turn out? Bookmarked it way back when b/c Kiwistein's my fav Hammermonster.
It's looking good so far, Ben!
Thanks fellas...yeah I have most projects on hold because I'm moving in the Spring and I figure it will be easier moving things un-assembled in boxes. The Kiwi head is just a small part of a larger diorama. The only two projects I'll be working on between now and April are the Teenage Wolfman and the Moebius Deluxe Dracula....and maybe the Moebius Frankenstein if I can get the replacement head I want for it.
