I thought Matchbox cars were 1:64 but judging from this 56 Ford convertible I just picked up side by side with the JL 55 Crown Vic they are not. What's the story

I would argue that not all JL are 1/64th. How do you realy know which one is out of proportion or not 1/64th scale?

I doubt even the JL is 1/64

Per Puppycats post I would say they are both smaller than 1/64 guessing.

Turn the Matchbox casting over and look on the base.
MB castings usually have the scale such as 1:70.

JL castings are 3" scale.
As Jeff Koch pointed out in a discussion, Tom Lowe didn't do JLs in 1:64 scale.
He had castings made to look good with the wheels or to find the packaging.

I have both castings but have never put them together to compare.

Cheers. Cobra

That's why I asked. I just checked and the MB has the scale on the bottom and, although hard to read due to the chrome plating, is definetly 1:7 something.

Thanks

You're always ready to argue, at least with me!

Ive come to terms that '1:64' means somewhere between 1:50 and 1:70 depending on manufacturer and casting...some match up, others not so well.

1:64, 1:69, 1:70, 1:72

I have also heard 3" scale for models in the 1:64ish size.
Also the manufacturers take liberties with the models for production & licensing reasons.

3" scale (1:64, 1:69, 1:70, 1:72)
