Been modeling for almost 50 years and I do the same stupid thing on almost every model! The latest example:

I carefully masked and airbrushed the yellow warning boxes around the phasers on a good ol' refit Enterprise kitbash I'm working on. As I was spraying the ones on the bottom, I feel my thumb squoosh into a freshly-painted one on the top.

AAARRRGGGH!!!!!!

Careless! Careless! Careless!

And I do that all the time! I'll be painting the wingtip running lights on an airplane model and hold it the freshly-painted left one as I go for the right one. I'll set a part down to dry, realize it's in the way, and pick it up by the wet part to move it! I'll pick up a finished model to put it on the shelf and grab it where there's a breakable antenna....

You'd think I'd have figured this stuff out by now. Oy.

Oh Yeah?...Well I got you beat... I've got a battery operated paint mixer, complete with mixing wand, and yesterday I was mixing some Silver paint up with my fully painted WIP Moebius Frankenstein right beside the Silver bottle....Yep I pulled the mixer out a little too soon and of course the wand was still spinning and of course I bespeckled ol' Frankie from Boots to Brow....gave him that Elton John look in a flash :drunk:...the only part that didn't get hit was the electrodes that the Silver paint was intended for....(Too early to start drinking Scotch?....Nah...)

And also remember, when shaking a tin of paint by a pale-coloured wall inside your house, to make sure the cap is firmly fixed into the tin...

I am laughing so hard now, cos I have done all of this too.

How about when you have just finished spraying the parts of your model and they are sitting on the bench in front of you attached to their sticks. You go to clean the airbrush and splatter them with thinner. AAARGH!!

Just took the masking tape off the yellow RCS quads on the same kit and noticed that I must have bumped one on the desk right after I sprayed it. Nice big smear right thru it.

*sigh*

Sounds like you're suffering from that same A.G.E. Syndrome I am, John. Did the same thing last night, tho it was w/a model I'd just primered. :(

oh yeah , it's like wet paint is a magnet for fingers !

i had this open paint bottle sitting there ready to dip a brush in .i go to pick up the part and somehow my finger winds up in the bottle of paint .
when i attempt to extract my wandering digit from its predicament the bottle sticks to my finger until it's about 6 inches off the bench top before it drops off spilling out .
what a mess !

My wife did the same thing last night while working on dollhouse furniture!
It runs in the family.
Or it runs in the hobby!

I recently had the bottle from my airbrush fall off and tumble down, spiraling a line of mint green paint all over the carpet. Between the dog and the hobby, we're never getting our security deposit back!

I feel the collective pain here. I have a Pegasus Martian war Machine that is sporting some unhealthy oily hand prints on it's fresh copper painted surface because I didn't think to seal the paint before I picked the damn thing up. Out of frustration it's now back in it's box while I debate cleaning the prints off (polish?) or stripping it and starting from scratch *sigh*...

Did it again. Applied some decals last night, then picked the model up and mashed a thumb right into a fresh one on the bottom.

Should stop watching porn while I'm modeling and pay attention...
