I've been looking for a previous thread about the size of the Cygnus from the Black Hole, and I can't seem to find it anywhere.

So the question is, how big was the main studio model of the Cygnus and what scale was it built to.?

I seem to remember something about 12 feet for the studio model (anyone got a more accurate length)?

Thereby, how big is the Cygnus?

Thanks guys.

So, if 147 inches long with a scale of 1/192, then the 'real' Cygnus is about 2,352 feet long.

I'm in the process of 'stretching' the MPC kit with an extra section I acquired, and with the new section, the kit length comes in at a little over 27 inches long.
Making the kit about 1/1000 scale.

But that makes the travel tube about 8 feet in diameter.
A little small based on the film.

If I bumped the scale up to 1/1400, then the diameter of the tube comes in around 12 feet. Closer to what it seems like in the film.

The diameter of the tube in the kit could always be a little undersized.
So I'll lean closer to the 1/1000 myself.

But its nice to have a scale range to work with for display purposes.
