Hi,

New member!

I came across this site when Googling for assistance in adjusting the governor on a new short engine I was fitting into my lawnmower. Thanks to a link I found in a thread on the site I've now got the mower running perfectly.

However, one thing I can't seem to get adjusted correctly is the pull length on the cord (I replaced it some time last year). it's as though I need a lot longer arm to get the engine started - if that makes sense!

There must be a correct way to tension the cord - I'd appreciate advice or a link.

Thank you

Do you have enough rope on the recoil or to much ? At a very min you need 3 feet but on those gc engines on the mowers its more in the 4 foot range. Also when you wind the recoil you wind it to until tight then back off 1 turn so the spring has some movement and this prevents the spring from becoming damaged.

Hi.

Thanks for the reply.

I think I've probably got too much cord. It's the "winding the recoil thing I'm not sure as to what you're supposed to do - last time it was more or less trial and error until I got it something near right!

I would use a 80" to 88" of cord on your engine ex. if it is on a mower. You should supply enough cord for extended start so your grip can be on the push bar rather then on the engine. Any how do just as rotti said and use these lengths and you should be alright.
