Found this site just surfing the net. Light FX models, if this has been covered allready please delete.
Like many other model building company's this Scottish company lights kits however the builders in this company explain in detail there techniques, for example on the Polar Lights 1/350 refit a simple technique for lighting the deflector dish with three colors with out using a programmable LED, and lighting the upper and lower sense domes spotlights so that they directly light the primary hull or "sail" as they refer to it. There is quite a wealth of knowledge here for many model lighting techniques.

Great effects, but good lord, they're paying way too much for their components. Haven't they heard of buying bulk, or ebay? The led prices in particular are insane.

A possible explanation may be that they purchase there stuff from an industrial catalog instead of bulk retailers. The items in those catalogs look similar and cost 3 times as much, however they are hand pick for durability and gaunted free from defects. Once they seal these models up there clients don't want any component failures. You really do get what you pay for.
