This one has always been one of my favorite castings in my accumulations. It is based on the 1964 Ford factory produced drag racing for only one year in conjuction with Andy Hotton's of Dearborn Steel Tubing. In total they built 100 cars - 49 with 4 speed shifters and 51 with automatic transmissions. They also secured the NHRA Super Stock Championship that year. New homologation regulations in 1965, required manufacturers to make more 100 actual production cars and Ford decided to not continue to make that many 1:1 race cars.

According to Fandom, 40 versions of the Hot Wheels Ford (Fairlane) Thunderbolt have been release through 2020. Many production years saw multiple versions released in the same year. There were (6) in 2006; (5) in 2007 and 2009; (4) in 2003 and (3) each in 2002, 2010 and 2016. It was designed by Phil Rielman for Mattel and introduced into the Hot Wheels mainline in 2001 as seen below.
