So I got this Racing Champions 1978 Trans Am which is a serialized LE of 19,998:

Here's the weird part - the serial number is #00000 as you can see!

So does that mean this one was the first one off the production line? :p

If it was in my collection, first thing I'd think is I have number 147, but that might well me the general model number that the company assigned to all the TransAms...

The #147 in the black square is the issue number and has nothing to do with the five digit serial number.

Using three other issue 1978 Trans Ams I have from Racing Champions as examples:

Issue #132 - Starlight Black - serial 13645 of 19998

Issue #137 - Buccaneer Red - serial 05589 of 19998

Issue #152 - Solar Gold - serial 11940 of 19998

Racing Champions did this same issue/serial number system on most of their releases such as Police USA and Fire & Rescue USA although the production quantities may differ.
