I have seen these videos of people sending things to the 'edge of space via high altitude weather ballons and filming it. a couple of guys sent a model of the gemini spacecraft up there as well and recovered it hours later via GPS tracking.

Dad told me they used to chill their beer in the Pacific by filling up the ammo trays in a P-47 with beer bottles, cruise around at 20,000 feet or so for a while, and serve promptly after landing. :)

John, some of these guys are sending their models up there, one guy sent his stuff 120,000 feet and recovered it 30 miles away after the balloon popped after growing to a size of more than 15 feet in diameter. did you see the guy with his gemini model up there with the curvature of the earth and blackness of space ? Some other guys sent an office chair up there, i guess they don't worry too much of it crashing back to earth and hitting someone if the chute doesn't open. they say they got special permission from the FAA, i wonder what they tell the FAA ?
