Faller was founded by Edwin and Hermann Faller in 1946 in Gütenbach, Germany. Their initial focus was to make model railroad accessories.

They also made slot car track and cars beginning in 1963 to 1980s.

Faller issued a set of diecast cars in the late 1960s made from plastic bodies and diecast bases.

Their "Carina" series was made from 1967 to 1968. This series was based on their AMS slot car series with bodies from the AMS series were fitted to plastic chassis and no electrical pick ups. The cars from this series were free wheeling and pushed along a surface or track.

The "Hit Car" series followed from 1969 to 1979. Also based on Faller's slot car line of (AMS) "Auto Motor & Sport". Both a standard paint and metallic finish body was offered. Models were primarily German vehicles with a single example of a British, Italian and French casting. Merzbach's American distribution advertisment noted these to 'sport a low center of gravity and individual wheel suspension'. Accessories to the "Hit Car" line included 'roadway sections' (track), 'ping-pong catapult' and the 'loopodrome'. After Faller ceased operations in the 1980s, some of the "Hit Cars" continued to be produced in Hungary by a plastics factory named Sluzba VDI in Nitra, Slovakia (then Czechoslovakia). Others molds went to Greece to an unnamed maker and some to Trol in Brazil.

Bodies were interchangeable between the AMS and Hit Cars, so unusual variations may have been produced privately.

Faller also produced a range of 1:43 scale plastic models of classic Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen Beetles from 1992 to 1997 called "Memory Cars".

In the mid 2000s, they were making building kits for model railways and car systems for HO scale slot cars.
