I just did a tuneup and carb clean on a walkbehind 6.75 briggs and stratton. It now will not start and on pulls it makes a pop out of the muffler. Also I noticed a little burn on the air filter afterwards. Wondering if anyone can help me with this problem. Thanks!

The mower is someone elses I'm just doing the work on it. When I did get it though, when I pulled the cord something was hitting. I thought the shaft was off but it wasn't and the blade wasn't hitting anything. I then took the engine apart to find nothing wrong with the piston or connecting rod. The guy said it ran fiine last year but when he went to start it this year the noise happened. Hope this helps. Thanks a lot!

I have had some briggs where it sounded like the rod was knocking when trying to start it or when it stopped, the blade was slightly loose caused by the washer missing from the blade bolt and the bolt bottoming out. Have a good one. Geo

Check to make sure the blade is tight as Geo suggested. You should also pull the blower housing to check that the flywheel key isn't sheared and the flywheel isn't hitting anything.

Many briggs engines have pressed in valve seats that can work loose if the engine overheats. I've seen them come out and fall down on the valve stem preventing it from closing - and making noise.

It would be helpful to have the model and type information for your engine, but if you're sure the noise isn't from outside of the engine, I would check those things.

Well the problem was a cracked flywheel and destroyed keys. I brought it back to the guy and he luckily still had a warranty on it. He will be getting a new mower. Thanks for the help guys!!!
He won't be getting a new mower when the AUTHORIZED DEALER that he has to take it to finds indications that somebody pulled the whole engine apart on it already. "Service" by anyone other than an authorized servicing dealer voids the warranty on a unit. But hey.. he took it to you in the first place.. so..
