Rick,

I don't know if its the program, it seems to me like the transponders are acting up. The program is the same thing that Tea's in Rochester, MN was using last winter and as far as I know, it seemed to work good.

By the way the program we are running now is Autoscore, any opinions on this software?

I have got lots of experience with Autocue and it works great, make sure you have the latest version because some versions do have bugs. The early versions were a work in progress. The transponders need to be fully charged in order for them to work properly, that means they should be charged, all lights should be green, before you get to the track, otherwise you will have trouble with them.

green number 3 for me, didnt count me the whole feature!

The computer software is at fault too for not lining the racers up in the mains right. I foregot about this, and this could be due to the early versions like Niels said.

Did anyone with personal transponder have problems? :) If the transponder is not charged it will give you trouble and not count correctly.

You really need to get the software upgraded.

I just did some research and the transponders are to be charged 12 hours or until all the lights go green which will be several hours. I used to charge the transponders the day before the race and then keep them charging at the track when I was help some other tracks around here.

I'm not sure if Hank had a personal transponder or not but he it wasn't counting him either.

The transponders were on the charger a week before the race. They probably sat an hour Saturday afternoon before I got them plugged back in at the track. Wouldn't think that hour would hurt them that much.

If you have been charging them like that then you probably have bad transponder batteries, Charging them for a week before the race cannot be good for them.

Here is a free counting system I have seen used for electrics, http://www.rctiming.com
not sure how it will work for 1/4 scales. Here is a link to others, http://www.rctiming.com/competition.shtml. Just do not want to see you guys spend money when you do not need to.

I do know on some versions of Autoscore, if you edit the database it will mess it and the mains will be screwed up. They have it fixed in later versions.

That was once and it wasn't for a whole week, maybe four days before a race. I put them on before I'd forget. I guess I should of thought, it doesn't trickle charge.

Rick said that he could get a copy of J Laps? that we could try this winter and see how it works.

Scoring

I know that J-lap does not work for 1/4 scale racing. The Michigan club bought it and had nothing but trouble. They are now using RC Scoring Pro with great sucess. The Indy Quater Scale Racers are using RC Scoring Pro and we have great sucess with our latest version.
If you loop is too far away from the transponders or if the gain is set to low on the box you will have trouble. If you have dead or weak batteries in the transponders you will have problems. RC Scoring Pro has an alert if a racers transponder signal is weak so you can watch for missed laps and you can have the racer use a different transponder.

We changed from Autoscore to RcScoringPro this year at Lagoon Park. Autoscore works fine, but will never setup the mains the way we do in 1/4 scale. We worked with Doug on the Quarterscale option for RcScoringPro, and it will run Qualifying and setup the mains per the QSAC rule book. We only use pt's at our track, but it will work with house transponders as well. RCSP also saves the results for each race in a folder in PDF, HTML and text for posting or emailing, and the points manager is super nice and easy! Oh and we got a lot of thank you's during our NCS event for the auto lap time anouncement feature during practice.

There was quite a learning curve, and Doug made several tweaks for us along the way. I've called his cell phone several times during an event ( including this past saturday, turned out to be a hardware issue) to ask how to do something, and he always available. Can't ask for better support. There has been some issues, but Doug is a phone call or email away and can/will email updates as necessary.

Now as to running Qsac format and a 10th scale format during the same show is another challenge, but it can be done. If you end up with RCSP and need to know more, JLMK.

What do you guys do different for Q Scale line up vs. say 1/10th scale oval?

I know AutoScore had a NON-WINDOWS based program for the old AMB20 systems that was a Q-Scale version, but I never knew what the differences were.

As for a TRANSPONDER not counting randomly - I would highly doubt that's a fault of the program...

Moreso, transponder MOUNTING, LOCATION, CHARGE, HEIGHT, INPUT VOLTAGE (if it's a personal) or maybe even LOOP. (Sounds more HARDWARE than SOFTWARE)
