Located in Sylvania, Ohio, Classic Metal Works began making diecast cars in 1997. The first models were made in 1:24 scale.

In 2000, they issued began making 1:87 (HO) called "Mini Metals" and 1:160 (N) scale ranges based on vehicles from the 1950s. Castings are highly detailed and fitted with rubber tires. Each comes in multiple real word liveries and now includes hot rods, police cars, semi truck and trailer rigs and other commercial trucks.

Classic Metal Works is now part of the Round 2 LLC family.
