Here is what I do....

take an old base...


Put it in a jar of white vinegar for 30 minutes...


Brush with a brass wire brush...


... and get a clean base.


When in the vinegar, bubbles will form on the surface of the zamac as the corrosion is eaten up, in severe cases, leaving a scummy film covering it when removed from the vinegar.
... and vinegar is safe enouth to put on your food!

Now you tell me :eek:.... I have been putting mine in acid and come back 10 mins later and its gone :tongue:..... Great tip :thumbsup: :thumbsup:
