Established in Paris, France, CIJ aka Compagnie Industrielle du Jouet was founded in 1927. They made their first vehicle models from tin during the 1920s. Known examples are vehicles from the Citroen brand ranging in sizes from 1:8 to 1:15 scales. CIJ switched to making Renaults in 1935, eventually offering them in smaller scale sizes.

In the 1930s, they made their vehicles out of plaster and flour (?).

Their first diecast made models were introduced in the 1950s. These HO scale castings were sold in small glass cylinders.

The company ceased operations in 1965, but saw a name comeback in 2007, when Norev made a re-issue of the CIJ Renault model collection from the 1950s and 60s.
