As you may remember, I traveled to Japan a few months back and since then I have been focusing my collection on Japanese cars. I figured I would post some of my recent purchases for those around here to pass the time.
I'm also excited because I'll be heading back to Japan next year. And that means I will be broke when I get back to the states.

Here are the most recent:

I seem to be heading in the opposite direction. I really think 43rd hits the sweet spot of detail and space requirements. Of course, that does not mean I have the space regardless. 18th scales are just for special occasions, like when you realize that no matter how bad you want the real thing, you'll never be able to afford it.

Very nice!

Those Skylines remind me of the Datsun 510s.
Are they related? same platform perhalps???

Love the blue pick up truck!!!!

thanks for showing!
The Skyline and 510 have a family resemblance in the same way the Altima and Sentra do now. That, plus most small cars in the 70s, Japanese especially, looked like they were designed using only straightedges.

Awesome! I have just got around to finally adding some of the Kyosho Skylines with Calsonic livery to my collection, as well as picking up a non-liveried Nissan Skyline GT-R R34. On my wish list (as opposed to bucket list?) -- to experience driving the real deal! For now, I simply enjoy looking at the 1:64 version and daydreaming ;)

The 1:18 Kyosho Nissan Skyline GT-R 2000 looks fabulous! Detail is so so very nice. Every time I see these larger diecasts I think i should move up from 1:64, but I need to stay put -- I believe I would go broke, lol!

I really like the lines of the Nissan Skyline GT-R 2000. About a month ago, I finally got my hands on the Kyosho 1/64 blue and green versions. The overall shape of the car kind of reminds me of the AMC Javelin AMX muscle cars/Trans Am racers back in the 70's.

I don't remember why exactly I decided to check out Mandarake's website on Monday, but here we are.

Amazingly, I ordered Monday afternoon (early morning Tuesday their time) and the invoice date was for Tuesday and DHL attempted to deliver on Thursday. That's friggen fast!

Does anyone know why these holes would be here? Anyone have one with them? I see some on eBay with and without.

Despite purchasing tickets to Tokyo recently for our trip in September, I couldn't help myself. I checked on my favorite weird-stuff megastore web site naively expecting not to find anything and they really lightened my wallet.

And finally, something not made by Nissan.

I think I'm officially a 1:43 scale collector. I just love the details that come with the slightly larger size but it doesn't mean I can only fit one on a shelf.

It's been fairly quiet on this board lately.

This was a surprise. I ordered these from my usual place in Akihabara back on 11/30 and on 12/6 they were delivered to the wrong address. I contacted DHL and let them know and they said they would attempt to recover them. I pretty much wrote them off at that point assuming I'd never see them. Well, lo and behold they showed up today in a severely dented box. The box was unopened and the dent was in a spot where there were no cars packed. So all ends well.

I didn't plan to get a bunch of Crowns, but all signs point to me being a fan. I really like the President. As seen in my Japan trip post, I fell in love with the one I got at the Tomica Shop so I had to pick up another when I saw it available at a great price.

Hope you all enjoy.
Others should post in here. Let's liven this place up again!

I was having a hard time whether or not I should post this here. It's a Japanese car, but it's not a Japanese company.
Well, I already have this going, so here it is.

So, overall, it is a fantastic display piece. It's 1/18 resin made by Retro Motoring - made in China of course.
I went with one signed by Brock and Morton.
The detail level is good, but to me it isn't as good as Kyosho or Autoart. One issue I have with it is that the base is what I would expect from a low cost brand. My biggest issue is that the wheels are static. This is my first (that I know of) resin model, so I don't know if that is standard practice.
Regardless, since it's going to spend its whole life on display I can see why a company wouldn't spent a ton of money on invisible details. I'd say that for the price, I'm a little disappointed. If it were about 2/3 the price I'd be very pleased.

Thanks Lummox, it certainly does look good.

So, I placed two orders that day. This arrived today, at a remarkably short time from when it actually shipped.

I'm not sure what the stamp is saying. I shouldn't throw the box away?

Well and thoughtfully packed for shipping as always.

Everything is wrapped up in a neat little package! Really I mean that. Sorry if it sounded sarcastic.

Over the next few days I'll be showcasing each one. It'll be tough to decide if I should open each one or not - especially the Toys Club cars. I guess we'll see.

I'll get to the Toys Club cars ;-)

The 1:18 Skylines were off eBay and the 510 was from BRE directly. Everything else here so far has been from Mandarake though.

I discovered Mandarake while in Japan (probably because of you, actually) and ordered from them for the first time when I got home. My wife has also bought some animation cells from their auction site.
Overall I'm very happy with them. Though it's a bit confusing since some of the shops will give you a shipping cost when you place your order and others will send you the total after a day or two. It's also kind of frustrating that some locations use spot sale/store front items so by the time they get around to checking to see if they still have it, it'll be gone. I think this was the only order I've placed where everything I selected was available. The only other issue was when I tried to pay with a credit card and despite not being in a state listed as not accepted, they responded back to my payment that no one from Virginia was allowed to use card anymore. It took a week for me to get credited back to my card.

Otherwise, they have been very responsive to emails. I'm not sure how the items work since what's online doesn't seem to be for sale in the store despite being store front items. Nothing I saw listed in Nakano or Complex was on the shelves when I pulled up the site while standing in the stores. I find they overstate the amount of damage and I'm always pleased with the condition of everything when I get it. It almost always says the box is damaged but then it looks perfectly fine when it arrives - considering it's probably been opened a few times before.
The average shipping time for 4 orders has been less than 3 days (using the amount of time it took the one to get to the wrong address). It's astounding how fast shipping is through DHL. I haven't tried the lower cost methods yet since my experience with DHL has been so good. And the shipping cost seems to average out to around $30. This time it wound up being about $3.75 per item.

So in summary, Mandarake is the worst. Stay away. No one should ever buy anything from them unless it's something I'm not interested in. In fact, just forget you ever heard of them.
