Have a Briggs & Stratton 5hp engine with no spark. Model#130292 0159-06. This engine does have the old points and condenser mounted under the fly wheel. So I want to check them. The problem I have is that on the fly wheel, there are two holes for a fly wheel puller. But, they do not have threads! So then, is there a way to remove the fly wheel without tapping threads into these holes. I would like to remove the fly wheel without having to do so.

This is what I usually do to remove a flywheel. Put the nut back on the shaft so aproximatly 3/4 of the nut is threaded onto the shaft. Do not leave any of the threads on the shaft exposed, above the nut. Grab ahold of the flywheel from underneath and lift. As you are lifting on the flywheel, gently tap on the flywheel nut until flywheel comes loose. Use a rubber mallet first, if that does not work, use a regular hammer and tap gently.
