AW Corvette, lowered

We've seen the new AW Corvette. I think looks pretty good:


But it COULD be lower. So I got to looking at the bottom of the body:


and hacked on the purple one, since it's a kinda ugly color and I wouldn't feel as bad if I messed it up.


Basically, I removed the crap at the bottoms of the windows and the little pegs that locate the window under the back edge of the hood. I also removed the side windows to make oiling the gearplate easier. Then I shortened the screwposts a little and found that the arm gear was VERY close to the windshield, so I thinned the bottom edge of the windshield a little.

To be honest, I was hoping for a more drastic difference, but I think it still looks pretty good with a little less daylight in the wheelwells...

I agree that the windows could be smaller in the AW cars so far (and the JLs before as well). Tyco and some Tomy windows just kind of 'pop' into place, no need to little posts and extra material to anchor the window.

Ugly cars win races so that purple 'vette should be good to go now. :p

This home improvement of bodies seems to be all too common, and does make one wonder why the original job was so badly done.
I guess this is the downside of China Syndrome, the upside (for the manufacturer) being much lower costs.

Nice job getting it down onto the tyres where it belongs! I like both colors, heh!

If they made them to the correctly, what would we have to fiddle with, yeah?!

If the bodys sat right from the factory what would we do instead?

Would have to agree with Crimnick. That purple one has a nice rake now and you eliminated most of that excess space from the wheel wells. :thumbsup: rr

I'd call closing that rear gap by two thirds (with only minor carving) drastic. :cool: Like your goat, a great stance. Maybe you should subcontract AW's quality control department. LOL. Have you seen Dr Synths "Relocated Rears" in the HT photo Album? I've got a nifty drop axle "how to" that can double the good Dr's drop. Both front and rear. The finished product will get you right down on the rails with no post shaving. Unless of course you want more, then shave away. Obviously tire diameter needs to go up a bit. I'd love to share it with the gang, but I'm still trying to figure out how to do the whole camera-computer thing! I'm a total pleeb when it comes to that stuff. I've gotta wait till the kids come to town so they can show me how. I've been pondering a Mako Makeover. After seeing your vette the Mako's goin to the top of the project list. Thanks for the inspiration! BH
