A little while ago I did the same modification on a Universal Hobbies 1/18 MGB GT, the problem I noticed
on that model was its rear quarter panel, the opening seems larger than Autoart's model
Look at the last 2 pictures to see the difference

modifications:
Lowered Front and rear suspension, minilite wheels, racing decals, racing seat, roll bar

Does seem to be more of a slope to the deck on the bottom pick. Casting discrepency? Or year change? Never noticed any difference in the years but then I never had several MGBGTs to compare.

To me it is a flaw by UH I dont think the real one is like that regardless of the year, it was such an eye sore that I had to sell it on ebay
