Realize these are not die cast but still highly collectable HW.
My son has the XV racers set with a bunch of cars and now wants more cars.
Are the Sizzlers the same as the X-V Racers from a few years ago ?

Guess I could buy one and find out but want to keep it on the down low for XMas. If they are the same cars he would be very happy with the different Sizzler models I see on the net. Maybe not looking but I havent seen them in the stores.

No. XV Racers are completely different.
And the Sizzlers come in 3 varieties but are all very similiar and I believe interchangeable.
Original Sizzlers by HW from the 70's.
Playing Mantis Sizzlers from the 90's.
And the new ones from HW

You need a charger for them that has a plug that looks similar to a headphone plug.
You plug em in to charge. Depending on the battery, you can charge em for up to 20 minutes for an equal amount of run time.

The tracks are all different too.

Thanks.
OK, thats what I thought.
Is ebay going to be the only place to find the XV racers?
They are not making them anymore right?

You got it! Except of course some new XV Racer thing Mattel is putting out, but I don't have any... yet. A Ferrari I think. I also believe it's a bit larger scale.
You might rummage around Kaz's site. I'm pretty sure he got some and may have done a little review.

I happen to have a Japanese SV racers set complete sealed from 1999 I also have 5 extra of these indy cars for this set all sealed from 99'.
Will take $700 for the set and 5 cars. all is Minty.

These are the same as XV yet they are the Japan version and I guess Mattel changed one letter, who knows y, I suppose some corporate decision..

X-V Racers and Sizzlers use a different charging system.
X-V Racers are charged by holding the racer onto a charging base.
Sizzlers are charged by inserting a charging cable into the side of the racer.

The systems are not interchangeable.

However, I'm going to let you know about the last incarnation of
racers using the 'X-V Racing' technology.

The recent Hot Wheels Speed Racer merchandise had a product called,
"Powerburst". You can search eBay for a 'Speed Racer Powerburst Figure 8'
track set. I own it and it appears to use the old X-V Racers
'Daytona Speedway' track parts. The curves and straight-aways are
compatible with the X-V Racers track parts.

One exclusive 'Powerburst' car was included with the track set. It was the
street version of Racer X. You could buy 4 or 5 other models separately.
I seem to remember Mach 4 or 6 and GRX.

However, even though the Powerburst cars use X-V Racers technology,
you can only use the charging bases that come with the Powerburst car.
The charging bases are NOT interchangeable.

If you have an eBay account, you could log in, do the following searches.
After the listings come up, you can see a text link that says, "Save this search".
You can elect to be notified when items fitting your needs pop up.

hot wheels racers (X-V,XV)

speed racer powerburst

The reason that I use this: (X-V,XV), is because sometimes people use
'X-V' and sometimes they use 'XV'. The above search, with a comma in the
middle (X-V,XV) will show you listings EITHER way. Please note that there
is NO SPACE in the middle. There is NO SPACE before or after the comma.
(X-V,XV)

Best wishes and have fun!

Sizzlers were the greatest especially in the Fat Track. My 10 year old is currently playing with a Daytona 500 XV set. Wonder what it is worth?

Welcome to boards @Patrick VR

As @Eviltwin678 notes the ebay sold listings are your best source for finding the most current market value of almost anything. Use the search tips that @markkaz lists above to help your search. And dont despair if you dont find any recent listings - these may not show up that often.
