A fellow collector told me the reason Canada is getting cheap Johnny Lightnings. Apparently Hotwheels are not being let in because of the mystery cars. It is viewed as a type of gambling by the government. So Walmart struck a deal so they could continue to offer cheap cars to the public. No Hotwheels until the mystery cars are over. True or not stranger things have happened. Especially with our government.

Having some experience with the tendency of the government of Canada for over-regulation (to go along with over-taxation), that supposition sounds perfectly believable. It reminds me of the domestic Canadian content rules for broadcast stations in the great white north. You Canucks may not like it, but your government will protect you. Anyway, I prefer the land of the free, the home of the brave and freedom to gamble at my local Mattel/Wal Mart Casino. I guess we get to enjoy the risk and the Canucks get to enjoy the great deal.

I have not been a big HW collector for years now, so could someone please explain to me about the Mystery cars. I have seen them many times on the pegs. What is great or not great about them? Thanks for any insight.

Mystery cars are hidden under black plastic. You do not know what you are getting until you rip them out of the pack. You can imagine what happens in the store and it is not with kids. The cars getting pulled from the packs leaving the mess behind. This is from so called collectors.

Does Canada ban canned goods because the can is opaque, even though the label describes the type of food inside??? The HW mystery packs are labeled HW and have a HW inside, doesn't make sense to me unless they ban ALL opaque packaging of ALL products.
