Yes, you should also be running a BEC if the servos are over 200oz.
I have two blown up CC regulators from my nitrobuggy. I'd send them back but I'm not going to run a regulator ever again anyway. Regulators are obsolete tech. Every smallish reg I've seen has been a nightmare of glitches and runaway cars. The good ones for airplanes weigh more than a 2s lipo rx pack.
If your running of the BEC built into your ESC then your battery voltage has little to do with your burnt up servo. JR/Spektrum servos are junk.
Get your self a Hitec 7955,7950, or 7940 for your buggy.
If you want to power them up seperate of your ESC, then cut the red wire on the ESC and plug a 600mah 2s lipo Rx pack straight up into your Rx.
Hobbycity has 2s Rx packs for $5-10.
But your probally fine with useing your ESC's BEC. Just get a quality servo this time.
for buggy, yes, for truggy.....kinda pushin it, as for brand, i would go by company that has best support for there product, nothing worse than buying a servo from LHS for 100.00 and use it for 7 minutes and goes to crap!
I use a JR 9100t servo with a castle creations mamba monster esc. I use a $5 capacitor i picked up from Twisted RC. It plugs right in to the receiver and haven't had a problem with my servo yet.
