There's actually a tangential connection, if you're a fan of '63 T-birds thru the old Thunderjet convertible...

And if you're trying to figure out what LeMons is (as opposed to LeMans)...

Oh, man! I wanted one of those Rocketship T-birds soooo badly when I was 12 years old.

For those who didn't notice the comments under the first article, here are two links to photos of the Ford concept Thunderbird Italien: link 1 and link 2. Looks like the Police team isn't the only ones with a taste for fake-wire wheelcovers.

Who'll be the first to goop up a T-jet version?

My youngest son wrenched for the team from Phantasm Motorsports at one of the events in Feb. In SC. If you look up the website one of their cars was painted up with "Duff Beer" sponsorship. They were a BIG hit with everyone because they gave out free homemade beer all weekend. And, they actually had a heater in their enclosed trailer so the race officials used it so they could keep warm. I think they were voted "The Most Popular Team".

Excellent post!

Reading through the rules was a great deal of fun. Here was my favorite car:

They're having a similar deal locally, it's $1500 by the time you pay entry fees on one car and the mandatory four drivers. Lot of risk of only running an hour or two in something pre-defined as a $500 car. We could whip together a car, but not a car we'd bet $1500 on running more than a couple hours.

hey bob, i think i remember seeing the Duff Beer car in the write-up on Jalopnik. and scott, i also would LOVE to get into one of these somehow. i already have ideas for a theme. get a ratty '70s or '80s Oldsmobile in that metallic mist Grandma Green that's always oxidized to within an inch of its life and call it Team Snotrocket...
