Summit R/C Raceway Slash/COOR Offroad, Ft. Wayne IN

For the Summer 2009 outdoor season, Summit Raceway has a new dirt oval track incorporating an infield for running COOR style/Slash offroad. So far the discussion of these classes has been on the Summit dirt oval thread. It's not really dirt oval, so this thread will take over the discussion of the class.

The majority of the initial racers will be the stock Slash trucks. There is also growing interest in the Associated SC10 running 17.5 or 13.5 brushless and/or non-stock Slash trucks. For at least the first race of the season, all the CORR type trucks will run in a single class. It is anticipated that after a short time, enough racers for both types of trucks will be racing and the classes will be split to run separately, or, if run together, will be scored separately.

The original dirt oval thread can be found at http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showthread.php?t=249178 if you would like to catch up on the discussion up to this point.

Well done my friend...this thread might turn out to be most active of all the Summit threads.

Any thoughts from anyone on the start of the races...I know we were discussing it in the other thread.

I like the motocross land rush start idea...although it might suck for whoever is marshalling that first turn.

The land rush starts sound like a good idea but after you do it a couple of times you'll pretty much hate it. It is cool to watch the real trucks do it but, that would really make qualifying worth nothing, and make a big pile up everytime. The Rc PRo Series tried it for a while and the novelty of it wore off pretty quick. You could maybe draw a number for an inversion. I'd rather TQ, draw a number and start 4th than to wind up in a giant wad on every start.

BTW, I havent seen the track since the DO went in. How much of the track area isnt being used by the oval??? I ask because I've been to some corr races that were held on asphalt ovals and they use not only the inside of the oval but the areas around the track as well.

Adam,

If it is like it was last fall, there is some room left at both ends and along the back stretch of the track. I haven't really looked at it closely since doing some testing last fall.

There is about 15 ft. on each end with a very large amount of dirt to work with.

If done right Dale, you could make a couple jump sections on each end as well as in the middle of the oval. You could make it pretty good to still run some 1/10th buggy and 4whl. I know I'd bring my buggies along with the sct trucks.

Does the oval extend back into what used to be the back straight??

I'm looking forward to running the CORR trucks when my schedule is free. It's a big class at every track I've been to this indoor season.

Ran Seth's slash truck with seth driving another on the track today, and WOW what a blast, the tight racing you can do side by side rubbing and bumping, I think this will be alot of fun. Also how about the the thought of incorporating in with the corr trucks racing flag pole racing of doing a 360deg. turn on the oval front stretch to mix things up a bit. Thanks Seth had alot of fun today at Summit Raceway Phil Z

Any time Phill! Just wait till you run with Corey and Preston, those guys a hoot to race with. I made a few sticker mods to the blue slash. Gage likes the blue and Colt likes the red one and for me I will paint one up in my normal paint skeem. For now hear is what I did for Gage.

p.s. Big LOVE goes out to Dale & Corey

I've heard about couple SC10's breaking chassis already, could be rough racing/driving I don't know...maybe something to keep an eye on.
There's already one chassis support plate/brace out there for sale...so who knows at this point.

Hey Chris-It will be part of Summits dirt oval program running on Saturdays(starting May2/3pm).They have used the infield and parts of the dirt oval to make a nice short coarse track.
