Medina RC Raceway announcements - Medina, OH

Hello fellow Medina R/C Raceway racers,

As many of you know the Track will be under new Leadership for the 2009 season. I would like to thank the people who have voiced their opinions and support. There are many details to hammer out and we will try to keep everyone in the loop about anything significant. As we work through these details we will be forming a “core” group of people to manage the track. So far the people we have on board are Steve Dulemba, Steve Forester, Rick Sayers and I. We will also be contacting a few others who have notified us of their interest in working with us to make a successful 09 season. The current track leaders will continue to run the races through September 27 which is the last point’s race. We will then run the remaining races (Oct. 4, 11, 18), all current memberships for discounted race fee’s will be honored. We are also considering extending the current schedule if weather permits. So with your continued support, Medina R/C Raceway will have yet another season of great family fun!!!!!!!!

Thanks,
Ray

Thank you for being willing to step up to the plate. Hopefully this will bring some of the more competitive drivers back on the scene for the 09 season for more club races.

Hey guys,

I know that you are really looking forward to getting in there and running some races this season but I have a word (or two) of caution.

I would NOT run ANY races on the track as it is right now!!!

Doing this will not help you guys in the long run. The track is in very bad condition and if you run races on it I believe it will color peoples opinon of what YOU think is an exceptable condition(s) to run races on. Everyone already knows what most of the current owners think is accepatable...I WOULD NOT continue the downward sipral! Separate yourselves from the old owners mistakes. Right now everyone has a glimmer of hope for Medina and I truely believe if you run races on this track that glimmer will fade and you will have an even bigger hole to dig out of than you do right now.

Having said that you could (if you intend on running races this season) go in and reface the junps and fix the many issues with the track and run into October if you choose. But this is the ONLY way I would recommend running any races this season.

I think Josh's idea of scraping the rest of this season in an effort to make for a MUCH improved track in the spring would be time MUCH better spent! Spend October prepping for '09.

Right now the whole left side of the track is not locked in or settled yet...get in there and get the base shaped and the drainage repaired (NOT in the MIDDLE of the track!!!! ) and things like this. If you get the base worked this fall it will continue to settle over the winter and come spring time all you'll have to do is Harley rake it, fix any spots that settled more than expected and build the jumps. You'll have enough to do in the spring without having to work the base and get the drainage right! Trust me...

So in a nut shell I think it would be much better to scrape October and get things in motion for '09!

Who knows maybe I am the only one with this opinon. But I would hate to see your new venture spoiled before it even starts... Along the same lines I think October is not the time to be repairing the track to be able to run a couple more weeks. As soon as indoor starts you will see a large drop off anyways.

Hopefuly others will chime in on the subject...I doubt anyone got their moneys worth but running another couple weeks is not going to change that.

Hope this in useful,

Good luck.

Chris

I think Rick meant getting the chefs to AGREE on the ingredients will be the hard part. But your point is well taken. If they get the right group of people together then it will work!

What I know right now is the people taking over are not so closed minded that they are not open to debate as to what is good for all racers. Sometimes the goals of every racer can not be met but the ability for racers to give their input I'm sure would be helpful. This input should be in place before any track builds for next season. Getting the ingredients in place before cooking( LOL) really helps for a good dinner.
The decline of electric guys racing is really being looked into and really needs input as to the main reasons the track has not been great for them.
Post away guys on these subjects and let your voice be heard They will not be ignored like in the past I'm sure.

Chris,
I think most racers that would come out for the last few races would understand the track conditions as they are now. This topic could be brought up at a drivers meeting explaining the current conditions and ask them if a early shutdown would ok with them. As long as they understand that things are going to change over the winter. Good points though.

Tweak,

I am pretty sure it is buried somewhere in the members thread on the DS but if not I know I heard it somewhere.

By "most" are you talking about most of the 15-20 that are coming now? (Good thing for the Slash class by the way...) Or the 45-50 that would normaly be coming?

I would think with a reface of the current layout and a little hipe they could get closer to the 45-50 mark the track was at. I just want to see them get some good momentum heading into '09!

This is the same thing we did at the end of '06, we started an electric only Friday night races. All it really did was prove to the electric crowd we were comitted to them. And '07 was the highest turnout of electric racers at Medina since before the gas racing boom!

I brought this up on here and the DS to get the talk going! As I said in my post maybe I am the only one but judging by the racers that normally run at Medina I see at OTHER tracks THEY would like to see a better track to run on!

It's their show I am just trying to give some input on how we got the track to were it was. They can do as they please.

I think they could make a HUGE statement to the racers by going in THIS weekend and doing the work. If they did this I think it would show they are willing to do what it takes to make a GREAT place to race! Think about it...they do not even own it yet and they are willing to fix the track before they take it over!

Chris
